Life is often considered a game and in the game of life everyone would like to be the best player, win championships and be the MVP. Here are a few ways the skills developed in basketball relate to life. The correlation between the two will help you be the best Dibia you can be!

Assist:

an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads to a score by field goal.

In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us. •Flora Edwards

Hockey Assist:

In ice hockey, an assist is attributed to up to two players of the scoring team who shot, passed or deflected the puck towards the scoring teammate, or touched it in any other way which enabled the goal, meaning that they were “assisting” in the goal.

Rebound:

To retrieve and gain possession of the ball as it bounces off the backboard or rim after an unsuccessful shot.

In life you will have to rebound many times. There are many instances where you will take a shot at achieving a goal and it doesn’t work. But when one door closes an even greater one opens up. Never give up on your dreams. You can always rebound from life!

Boxing Out:

Gaining position to secure a rebound.

Boxing out is not glamorous by any means nor will you see this stat in the Box score but it’s so important to the game of basketball. In Life you will be asked to do things that may not get you credit but it helps the greater good. •Team Dibia

Screens:

Screens are most helpful in freeing up a teammate against a defender. Setting a screen is a good way to get your open for a pass and shot.

In life you will face many obstacles and need a screen to free yourself. In these times we have to make sure we rebound, use the screen provided and attack life with positivity and a renewed focus! •Team Dibia

Scorer:

A In addition to having great athletic ability, court sense, and confidence, great scorers are also great finishers.

Being a score is similar to being an achiever. In life you will have to be a scorer to be successful and achieve your goals. You can be good scorer or a great sne will you be? •Jacobi Quinn

Defense:

Preventing the man you are guarding or team you are playing from scoring. The different defenses are man to man, zone, trapping and transition defense.

Basketball defense is the most important part of the game! It may not be as glamorous as scoring but being a shut down defender gains you a high level respect from your team. In life you will have to defend against negative people, obstacles and uncontrollable circumstances. Remember: offense puts people in the seats, but defense wins games. •Anonymous

Communication:

Activity of converting information.

A key factor in having communication skills is that they involve much more than verbal commands. Body language and facial expressions play a huge role when you’re communicating with others.
